A new concept car has been said to make its drivers feel like they are gliding through the air when it tilts to the side as it takes bends.

The ‘Land-Glider,’ is a zero-emission, electric vehicle that measures just 1.1 metres (3.6 feet) wide and can sit two people: one in the front and one in the back.

Launched by car manufacturer Nissan, the futuristic Land-Glider is inspired by motorbikes and glider aircraft.

The four-wheeled vehicle has tilting wheels and a moving fender, which enables it to lean by up to 17 degrees. Sensor technology enables it to calculate the best tilt for a corner. It also has airplane-like controls, instead of a steering wheel.

"In the past a car used to move only in a two dimensional way but the Land Glider can move in a three dimensional way," project leader, Nissan's Ryusuke Hayashi, told the AFP.

Nissan will display the Land-Glider at the Tokyo Motor Show – 24 October to 4 November. For a preview of the car in action, see it on YouTube here.
